Stop Being A Slave To Your Phone
An argumentative newsletter about why you need to take control over your phone before it controls you.
Our phone is the first thing we look at in the morning, and it is the last thing we look at before we go to bed. We do everything with it, Right?. We are so addicted to our phones that we might ask ourselves: Do we own our phones, or do our phones own us?
Don’t get me wrong, we are all aware that our phone is the most revolutionary invention throughout history, and it is a natural necessity for modern life as it makes our daily lives much easier and more effective. However, I believe that our extreme use of our mobile phones can make us pay a very high price. Believe it or not, your cellphone is possibly causing you more harm than good.
Our phones are experts in giving us dopamine rewards, and that creates an addiction, which is sometimes called nomophobia which means the fear of being detached from mobile phone connectivity.
In the past few weeks, I started noticing that I’ve become a slave to my phone where I am repeatedly checking texts, emails, social media apps without any purpose at all. I literally have a world of distractions at my fingertips and I am no longer focusing on the things that matter to me. Therefore, I decided to write this newsletter to help you and me to reassess our phone use and to actually start taking control of it before it destroys our existence and future. So, I am about to share with you three major reasons why you should take action regarding your phone use immediately.
Cell phones are damaging our health
Studies have shown that exclusive phone use has adverse health effects including changes in brain activity, reaction times, and sleep patterns because the brain is constantly in full swing to take in and process new information without interruption until it becomes overloaded.
Some studies show that parts of the brain literally shrink as a result of the prolonged stress that we get from our phones. The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified RF radiation (Radiofrequency radiation) as possibly carcinogenic for humans, based on an increased risk for glioma, a type of brain cancer.
Moreover, excessive smartphone use can disrupt your sleep, which can have a serious impact on your overall mental health. It can impact your memory, affect your ability to think clearly and deeply, and diminish your cognitive and learning skills.
We become ROBOTS with no social interactions
Our overuse of technology has completely transformed how we communicate and interact with other people. The mobile phone is one of the main reasons for the reduced social interaction and social competent where we give priority to looking at our phones rather than communicating with the people who are around us.
The family members are not even present in family meetings or among their friends because we are disrupted by our cellphone and not engaged at all, and we eventually end up in a situation where we feel left out and completely excluded.
Smartphones decrease our self-esteem
Depression and low self-esteem can be devastating complications of smartphone addiction, especially among vulnerable groups and teenagers. Previous reports demonstrated a higher degree of depressive symptoms among students with smartphone addiction.
Also, smartphone users are noted to suffer from low self-esteem as users tend to compare themselves with their peers or with the unattainable ideals on social media, which promotes feelings of loneliness, depression, and dissatisfaction. Several studies today show that more than 50% of ages between 12 and 16 feel dissatisfied with their bodies.
"A smartphone is an addictive device which traps a soul into a lifeless planet full of lives
Now you understand why I think we need to take control over our mobile phones before they destroy our confidence, health, and social skills. Keep in mind that our phones were invented to bring people closer together and not to keep them away from each other. Therefore, If you are interested in really getting the most out of all your experiences, increasing your productivity, and being less stressed and overwhelmed, start paying attention to how you are using your cellphone.
